La Certosa di Firenze, tra arte e silenzio
Just a short distance from hu Firenze Certosa camping in town, on the hills of Galluzzo, the Florence Charterhouse holds centuries of history within its cloisters, artworks and spaces once created for monastic life. The complex stands on Monte Acuto, south of the city, in a quieter side of Florence, away from the pace of the historic centre.
Founded in the 14th century by Niccolò Acciaioli, the Charterhouse grew over time around its church, cloisters, refectory, sacristy and the monks’ former cells. In the Great Cloister, you can also see 66 terracotta busts by Giovanni della Robbia, one of the many artistic details preserved within its walls.
Here, time moves at a different pace. You can walk beneath the porticoes and through courtyards and rooms that tell the story of a life shaped by study, work and silence. A different way to discover Florence, starting from the landscape just around the campsite.
The interior of the Charterhouse can be visited on a guided tour lasting about one hour.
