What to do in Florence in the evening

There’s a different side of Florence that comes alive as the sun sets behind the hills: warm lights, lively trattorias, laughter echoing through alleyways, and slow steps along the Arno.
If you’re staying at hu Firenze Certosa camping in town, you’re in the perfect spot to explore it all. Here are a few ideas to enjoy the city from sunset onwards.

1. A walk from Porta Romana to Ponte Vecchio (via Piazza Pitti)

Just outside the campsite, one of the most scenic walks begins at Porta Romana. Head gently uphill toward the center, where greenery and stone blend beautifully, with the Boboli Gardens offering a regal backdrop.

Then stroll down to Piazza Pitti, with its noble charm and quiet lanes, and follow the smells of traditional cooking through via Maggio until you reach Piazza Santo Spirito, where something is always happening—live music, local markets, or just the buzz of conversation.

From there, it’s only a short walk to Ponte Vecchio, where you can take a photo, grab a gelato, or just stop and watch the city reflected in the water.

2. Aperitivo in San Frediano: where the locals go

Cross the Arno into San Frediano, the most authentic and artsy side of Florence. This lively, bohemian district is full of artisan workshops, quirky bars, and creative energy.

Here, an aperitivo is more than just a drink—it’s a ritual. Sip a local red wine with crostini in Piazza del Carmine, or hop between cozy spots along via Pisana and via della Chiesa.

3. Dinner in a trattoria between Piazza Pitti and Santo Spirito

Forget tourist menus—this is where you’ll find real Tuscan food. From pappa al pomodoro and ribollita to pici with cheese and pepper, and of course, the iconic bistecca alla fiorentina.

Look for the local trattorias with checkered tablecloths and the scent of tomato sauce wafting out of the kitchen. Between Piazza Pitti and Santo Spirito, there are plenty of hidden gems.

4. End the night with real Italian gelato

What better way to end the night than with a real gelato—fresh, creamy, and made with love. In the Oltrarno district, Sbrino in Santo Spirito is a local favorite: seasonal flavors, natural ingredients, and even some boozy surprises (ever tried Negroni gelato?).

A Florentine evening, your way

The best thing about being just outside the city center, yet surrounded by nature?
You can enjoy Florence late into the night and return to sleep under the stars, in the peace and quiet of the hills.
Because Florence, at night, tells a different story.
